FALL PREVENTION TAKES ANOTHER LEAP FORWARD WITH ALOE CARE
Aloe Care’s Advanced Eldercare Technologies Now Identify Potential UTI And Dehydration Risks, Both Have Strong Correlation to Increased Falls –
– Leading Medicare Advantage, Medicaid, Home Health, And Senior Living Organizations Throughout the U.S. Use Aloe Care to Improve Outcomes, Reduce Hospitalizations and Costs –

NEW YORK, 29 October 2024 – Today, Aloe Care announced another breakthrough in its mission to prevent avoidable falls among older adults: the ability to flag potential UTIs and Dehydration, both of which are strongly correlated with the risk of falls.*

Aloe Care Health, the creators of the world's most advanced medical alert and fall prevention system for eldercare, is at the forefront of using data to improve emergency response, prevent falls, and improve outcomes. Its data-centric approach; combined with a system that easily adapts to individual needs and features a purpose-built, patented platform, has made Aloe Care the partner-of-choice for modern healthcare providers, including Medicare Advantage, Medicaid, Home Health, and Senior Living organizations throughout the U.S.

Many falls are preventable, and the outcomes for older adults can be catastrophic. Falls not only incur billions of dollars to our healthcare system, but they are responsible for 70% of accidental deaths in people 75 years and older.**

The primary causes of preventable falls among older adults include visual impairment, agitation, mobility problems, and abnormal urination patterns, according to the National Institutes of Health.***

Here are a few reasons urinary tract infections have such a powerful correlation with increased fall risk:

  • Urgency. A sense of increased urgency can cause haste, and therefore, a potential fall to and/or from the bathroom.
  • Frequency. More trips to the bathroom, especially at night when it’s dark and people are sleepy, results in more falls. The majority of falls – 80 percent – happen in the bathroom, according to the National Institute on Aging, and nearly 60% of elder falls occur at night, according to the National Institutes of Health.****
  • Dehydration. This can lead to impaired blood flow to the brain, causing low blood pressure and dizziness; therefore, an increased likelihood of a fall.

Based on movement through the house on a week-to-week basis, Aloe Care identifies differences in bathroom activity  and compares it to the individuals’ baseline bathroom activity. If there is a significant increase or decrease in bathroom visits,  a “tag” appears on the Care Recipients’ update within the healthcare partners’ portal. The partner can then take action to assess and mitigate the risk.

The care portal screen looks like this:

The UTI and Dehydration Risk Tags are Aloe Care’s latest advancements in fall prevention. Another reason falls can be so needlessly devastating is wait time. If an older adult falls and does not get help quickly, they may risk additional complications and worse outcomes. Having multiple means of accessing help can make a critical difference. Aloe Care’s proprietary, voice-activated SmartHub, Mobile Companion 2 with Fall Detection, and Care Button ensure that the right level of help will arrive swiftly.

Aloe Care’s voice-activated, patented Smart Hub sits at the center of the company’s proprietary, flexible ecosystem and is supported by an ever-expanding ecosystem of peripheral devices, making it customizable and easily adaptable to new technologies. Notably, the company recently announced the addition of the Withings Sleep Tracking Mat, marking another major advance for the company.
